We need people in our lives with whom we can be as open as possible. To have real conversations with people may seem like such a simple, obvious suggestion, but it involves courage and risk. –Thomas Moore
I earned my Doctorate in Psychology and Counseling from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. I specialize in marriage and family therapy, licensed in the states of Texas, Hawaii and North Carolina. I am a Professional Member and Approved Supervisor of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), certified MBTI practitioner, and a certified PREPARE/ENRICH Counselor.
As a Christian counselor, I believe in the foundation of relationships, and my faith significantly influences my work. This is integrated with family systems and cognitive-behavioral understandings of how people work. I strive for a balanced integration of psychological principles with biblical truths, working with individuals, couples, and families. I use a strengths-based approach, focusing on the positive possibilities for a successful outcome.
I have a broad-based background in the mental health field, with over 25 years’ experience. I was a professor of Psychology and Counseling at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and served as a Director of Clinical Pastoral Training at a State Hospital, and Director of two non-profit organizations focused on community crisis intervention and treatment for severely mentally ill. I also served as an ordained pastor and professional therapist at two churches for over 18 years, as well as working as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice.
I am a military veteran of the U.S. Army, having served 9 years as an Engineer Officer. Family life is a vital component and source of enjoyment. I got married in 1981 to my awesome wife and best friend; have two amazing sons married to two awesome women; and actively enjoy the blessing of four incredible grandchildren.
I am a lifelong student, constantly seeking to continue to learn. I enjoy weight training as well as hiking, biking, and spending quality time with God and family.
I work remotely with clients in North Carolina and Hawaii using Telehealth services including HIPAA-compliant video conferencing, and I work with clients in Texas both in person and through Telehealth services. I look forward to working with you!
